(Radio Bulgaria, March 19, 2009) For almost 10 years Bulgarian and foreign organic products have been offered on the Bulgarian market.
The
Bioselena Foundation for organic agriculture announced recently the results of a survey on organic product markets, producers and trader of such products in Bulgaria. According to Stoilko Apostolov, President of Bioselena Foundation, the survey has outlined the state of the organic product market and its turnover in the country in 2008.
According to that survey the total number of different organic products on the Bulgarian market is 733. 657 of them are various kinds of foods. The remaining number is cosmetics or house-cleaning organic products.
Only 7% of the total number of organic products on sale were manufactured in Bulgaria. The total turnover with organic products for 2008 was nearly 4 Million Euros; if the data of those retailers, who did not participated in the survey, are added that figure may reach 4.5 million Euros according to Bioselena. The survey reveals an increase in sales of such products in the country.
