Organic Grape Area Increases by 27 Percent in 2009

According to the latest survey on organic agriculture worldwide (data 2009), the total grape area is now at more than 190'000 hectares or 2.6 percent of the global grape area (7.4 million hectares).

The grape area grew by 27 percent compared with 2008. The countries with the largest grape areas are Spain (54'000 hectares), Italy (44'000 hectares) and France (39'000 hectares).

The highest shares are in Austria (7.3 percent), Italy (5.5 percent) and France (4.8 percent).
