This year’s conference will focus on organic farming and its interactions with rural development, nature conservation, ecotourism and biodiversity. The call for contributions is open until June 1, 2010.

The conference will present practical and scientific knowledge and allow exchange of experiences among practitioners in the fields of grain, rice and seed production, animal husbandry, cotton growing and wild collection. It will broaden participants’ understanding of interrelations of organic agriculture and nature conservation, biodiversity, rural development and eco-tourism, and promote the importance of intact agro-ecosystems. Market aspects and strategies will be an integral part of the conference programme as farmers and manufacturers are anxious in developing local and international ties to market players.

In the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the Caucasus agriculture plays an important role. Most of the inhabitants live in rural areas. Huge farms contrast with small scale subsistence farming. Some of the best soils worldwide are located in the region, but also areas of heavily degraded agricultural land. The countries have to cope with effects of intensive use of agrochemicals, soil salinity, desertification and water scarcity. Kazakhstan is the largest of the Central Asian countries. Astana, the capital city is situated near to the Korgalzhyn State Nature Reserve, a (threatened) wetland paradise.

All participants are warmly welcomed to register now and make use of the discount for early bird registration until May 31, 2010.
