*The webpage www.organicsyria.com, was established in the framework of a FAO project on the institutional development of organic farming in Syria, implemented by the General Commission for Scientific Agricultural Research (GCSAR) and the Ministry of Agriculture. The homepage informs about the project and about the general situation of organic farming in Syria.
In Syria, there has been a growing interest by scientists, farmers, trade operators and the Syrian Government in organic agriculture.
The project "Institutional Development of Organic Agriculture in Syria" was recently launched to elaborate a legal framework, establish a certification body, initiate a research and a training programme.
