The Netherlands: Organic land and market continue to grow in 2008

Biologica, the organic sector organisation in The Netherlands, recently presented the figures for organic farming for 2008. The area under organic management is now 50’435 hectares and has thus grown by 7.3 percent compared to 2007.

The share of the total agricultural land is 2.6 (and thus below the European Union's average of approximately 4 percent).

The market grew by 12.4 percent  from 518.9 million Euros in 2007 to 583.41 million Euros in 2008 (including catering). The share of the total market is 2.1 percent (2007: 2 percent).

The figures are published annually in the Jaarrapport, which gives a complete overview (in Dutch) of the sector.
