The project runs from 2011-2016. Twenty-five partners from ten European countries participate in the large project. The first project newsletter informs about the fist SOLID activites and results.
The project's objectives are to improve the technical and economic performance of low input and organic dairy systems whilst at the same time maximising their potential to deliver environmental benefits. There is a diverse team of 25 research institutes and dairy businesses from across 11 European countries, and there will be a range of events and workshops taking place.
Updates on activities are available through the SOLID newsletter and the project website www.solidairy.eu.
The first newsletter of the SOLID project has the following contents:
- Farms in Austria – a description
- Assessing whole farm sustainablility
- Cattle and goat breeds adapted to organic and low input dairy production systems: Facts versus fiction
- Novel and underutilized feed resources – potential for use in organic andlow input dairy production
- Brief news & events
The project partners welcome communication with other researchers
and dairy industry participants on any activities taking place in the organic and low input dairy sectors that could facilitate cross pollination of ideas.
