Czech Republic - Yearbook 2011 published

The yearbook 2011 for the Czech Republic was published by the Czech Ministry of Agriculture, the Czech Technology Plaform for Organic Farming and Bioinstitut.

In 2011, there were 646 registered processors of organic foodstuffs and 3,920 organic farmers working a total of about 483,000 hectares, representing 11.4 % of total agricultural acreage.

Organic farming is an integral part of Czech agrarian policy. Besides the production of organic foodstuffs it contributes to the improvement of living conditions for farm animals, to the protection of the environment and the improvement of environmental biodiversity.

Organic farmers have constant support via the Rural Development Fund. The Ministry is also preparing strategic documents and one of the most important is the Action Plan for the Development of Organic Farming.
