New agreement between Canada and Switzerland on the recognition of equivalency for organic agricultural products

Canadian and Swiss organic producers will have increased opportunities to export their organic food products, and consumers in both countries will have more choices as the results of the Canada-Switzerland Organic Equivalency Arrangement reached on December 18, 2012.

With the Agreement, Canada and Switzerland agreed on a mutual recognition of equivalence for organic products.

The arrangement is the outcome of an extensive analysis of both countries' production and certification systems. The arrangement will allow for easier import and export of certified organic products between Canada and Switzerland without the need for additional certification, thus reducing costs and red tape.
