Call for Abstracts: Symposium ’Soil Fertility and Crop Nutrition Management in Mediterranean Organic Agriculture’

The symposium ’Soil Fertility and Crop Nutrition Management in Mediterranean Organic Agriculture’ takes place from March 23 to 25, 2010, in Sousse, Tunisia. Abstracts must be submitted to the organizers of the symposium no later than 1 January 2010.

The symposium is organised by the Mediterranean Organic Agriculture Network MOAN, the International Society of Organic Agriculture Research ISOFAR and the Technical Center of Organic Agriculture CTAB.

Background

Organic Agriculture has experienced a rapid expansion in recent years, with continued growth globally and in the Mediterranean region, where it offers sustainable development opportunities and initiatives.

Organic Farming aims for closed nutrient cycles, and sustainability depends on the optimal integration and adaptation of the various system components. Soil quality is a key indicator of sustainability in land management, and soil fertility is a critical issue in Organic Farming. Given the specific conditions of arid and semi-arid regions and the production of more than one crop per year, the management of soil fertility in Mediterranean countries has to meet the nutrient requirements of the crops and improve soil fertility over a longer period of time compared with conventional systems.

Objective

This symposium offers a great opportunity for all interested participants to learn and exchange information and experience about soil fertility, crop fertilization and in particular organic matter management, such as composting, in organic farming under Mediterranean conditions.

Organization

The Symposium is being organized jointly by:

  • International Society of Organic Agricultural Research ISOFAR
  • Mediterranean Organic Agriculture Network MOAN
  • Technical Center of Organic Agriculture CTAB

Symposium topics

  • Soil fertility
  • Crop fertilization and nutrition
  • Organic matter management

Symposium Language

The symposium language is English.

Submission procedure and time schedule

Abstracts must be submitted to the organizers of the symposium no later than 1 January 2010.

Authors will be informed by January 21, 2010 whether their contribution has been accepted for oral or poster presentation. Abstracts will be returned to the authors for revision if needed. The submission deadline for revised abstracts will be January 31, 2010.

The abstract must include at the top an accurate title as well as names and addresses of the authors, indicating the corresponding author. The abstract should enable the reviewers to identify the basic content of the contribution quickly and accurately to determine its relevance to the participants of the symposium. The abstract should succinctly (one DIN A4 page single spaced 12 pt, Times New Roman) state the principal objectives and scope of the investigation and briefly describe the methods used. More importantly, the abstract should concisely summarize the results and principal conclusions.

Symposium proceedings

The symposium proceedings will include abstracts from both oral and poster
presentation and will be distributed at the registration desk.
