October 12-16, 2009: Fourth Organic Meeting of Latin America and Caribbean in Salinitas, El Salvador

TheFourth Organic Meeting of Latin America and Caribbean will be held from October 12 to 16 2009 in Salinitas, El Salvador.

The meeting will give participants the opportunity to share experiences on production and participative research, institutional research, to inform themselves about company activities, organic market initiatives, current projects and developing programs in Latin America and the Caribbean focusing on organic agriculture and fair trade.

The topics covered during the event are: 

1. Organic agriculture and organic animal production
2. Organic aquaculture
3. Organic regulations and organic certifications systems; for example third party certification system, participatory guaranty systems
4. Development of the local and international market, trade with organic and fair trade products
5. Processing and quality standards of organic and fair trade products
6. Contribution of organic agriculture to biodiversity, protection of the natural resources and mitigation of climate change
7. Womens' experiences in the production, processing and the trade of organic and fair trade products
8. Community organization and association initiatives for the production of organic and fair trade products
9. Agro-ecotourism

The meeting is held in conjunction with the IV Organic Producers' Fair of Latin America and Caribbean, also held in Salinitas from October 14 to 16, 2009.
